Third-generation drag racer debuts in Eddyville
Carter Brand, age 8, son of Eric and Faye Brand and grandson of Dale and Tana Brand and Leon and Margaret Vander Weerdt, made his drag racing debut at Eddyville Raceway Park on Saturday, June 27. In previous weeks, Carter had attended test-and-tune events to get his license. The 27th was his first race where he faced another opponent. Unfortunately, Carter had a red light his first round, getting a little antsy off the starting line. But he came back in the consolation race, and followed in his grandpa's footsteps, beating the girl in the next lane with a hole shot victory. Crew chief dad Eric has a little more learning to do with a junior dragster, changing from tuning a 250 mph funny car at 5.5 seconds in the quarter mile to a 50 mph car at 11.90 seconds in the 1/8 mile. Good job, Carter!
